Biking on the Road is not only easier, faster and safer, it is also a lot of fun.
With the spring edition of 30 Days of Biking just around the corner I am in dire need of a new(used) bike for this summer. After much criticism and for my own personal (biking) growth I have decided to abandon my Electric Assist Bike for something a little more traditional. My biggest problem has been trying to find a bike that fits my needs without breaking the bank. I would prefer to pick up a used bike that needs a little work over a brand spanking new one as I will be storing my bike outside and in public view overnight. So this is my call to all of you: If you have an old dusty bike in the garage or basement and would like to get rid of it, I am looking to buy. I can also pick it up. Here is what I am looking for in a bike:
If you have a bike that you are willing to donate, please shoot me an email.
Today I was not able to participate in #30daysofbiking the way I normally do with my casual and enjoyable bike ride to work in the morning. Today I was forced to drive because of a meeting I have in Mt Brydges right after work. Not only did it take me longer to drive to work today, I found myself becoming easily frustrated while stuck at many lights and in heavy traffic. Normally when I get to work, I am energized, awake, happy and out of breath. Today seemed to be the exact opposite. I am looking forward to getting back on my bike tomorrow for the relaxing ride to work!
What A Smooth Ride!
I had to kill some time while we have another open house (fingers crossed) so I decided to bike down to my neighbourhood Library to work on my computer. I didn’t realize or think to check online for that matter, if the Library was even open on Sunday. Turns out is not! So I biked down to Starrbucks to enjoy free wifi and a Pumpkin Spice Latte. The best part of the day was getting to take my cruiser out again. The chain broke early in the summer and I had not had the time or resources to fix it. On the first day of 30 Days of Biking Jody Bailey was graious enough to come by and fix up my chain.

Today was the first day I was able to get out on my bike and let me tell you it was just as good as I remember. This bike is so nice to ride and its uber comfortable too! Not to mention the beautiful weather outside today. All in all, another great bike ride for #30daysofbiking!
Yet again another tragedy. Drivers, please give bikes the room they deserve. Remember, thats not just some hippy on a bike, its a vulnerable person http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2010/09/10/ottawa-hit-and-run-cyclist.html?ref=rss #30daysofbiking
Chilly bike ride this morning for #30daysofbiking but was able to hit a lot of green lights and ended up making it into work in 12 minutes. My commute all summer has been quick, enjoyable, healthy and good for the environment. How was yours?
Part 2 of my rides for #30daysofbiking, check out my orginal cruiser:
Rusty - This has been my bike for the last two yearswhen I decided to throw away my old CT Racing bike and start a new. After first moving to my house, this old Burgundy Cruiser sat along the side of my deck for over 3 years. Finally when I pulled it out of from the weeds that had grown around it, I realized that it had a lot of potential. I really liked the rust on the rims surrounded by white wall tires and decided to go with the “rat-rod” look for it. I bought up 4 cans of flat back paint and some WD-40 and that was pretty much it. I really like the simplistic yet bold style of this bike and it make for a great cruising ride in the evening.
I thought I would showcase my rides for #30daysofbiking so I had a little photo shoot in the back yard yesterday. Let me introduce you to my wheels, first up:
The Daily Driver: This is the bike I use every day for work. Some hardcore bikers will say that this bike cheating because it has an electric assist motor, but I say hog-wash. This bike has made me use my car less and although it still requires power, only 2-4 hours a night depending on how far I travel. A small drop in the bucket compared to the cost of driving a car everyday. It is also a great biking for cooling down in the morning. Nobody likes to be stinky and sweaty when they get to work (or maybe you do but that’s none of my business) so I simply just coast the last block on cruise control to cool down. The electric assist is also great for hills and to keep up with traffic at stoplights. This bike has been a great investment and I look forward to my morning cruises every day.
Tomorrow’s bike, Rusty!
This is my bike route to work. I really enjoy it because it snakes through Old North and right by Victoria Park. Also the roads are not to busy and there are even some share the road areas which helps. Timing it this morning in only took 18 minutes to get door to door. Pretty good considering Google Maps estimates 13 minutes by car!
Why don’t people get it? If you think the article is sad, I wouldn’t recommend you read the comments! #30daysofbiking
